Makerspaces are making their way to the state of Rhode Island.
The state currently has around 7 school libraries, 6 public libraries, 6 schools, and 10 organizations and businesses with "makerspaces". And this number is growing every year!
That is why it is important that our community remains informed about the important issues pertaining to the maker movement, education, and libraries. By connecting with one another, we can be better prepared to assist and create a community of makers in Rhode Island again! We should always remember that our beloved state was once known as the jewelry-making capital of our nation, along with our booming textile, machinery, and silverware industry. We are the founding state of the American Industrial Revolution! Yet, our manufacturing industry has been struggling from some time now. And while, Governor Gina M. Raimondo is currently trying to revitalize our economy and create a thriving technology hub here, it needs to be our mission to come together to create learning environments for our current and future generations to fill those positions and to be makers and innovators! |
I highly recommend that you take a look at the map and see if there is a makerspace close to you. So visit, explore, connect, and collaborate!
If you have any suggestions of locations not listed, please email Allison Barker at [email protected] to have it added! |
